Oh, great, I thought. I wasn't sure if I remembered to charge the battery on the HT before I left for that hunting trip. I didn't think I'd need it. Boy could I ever use it now!
Think calm I thought. Just try to contact the man again. I punched the PTT and talked loudly, clearly, and steadily into the mic. "My battery is dying quickly-need assistance-I am a hunter and have a broken leg." I said.
I waited for a moment and then I heard a static rush followed by a man's voice. "Shhhhhhhhh...You're a hunter? That's great. What's the emergency?"
Oh great, I thought. Well, I'll try one more time and whatever happens...happens.
"I have a broken leg!" I cried out into the mic. "I Need assistance immediately."
"Shhhhhhh...All I hear is a big static rush, over."
This is REALLY great, I thought to myself. Just then, an idea flashed into my head. I could try to build a makeshift antenna!
"Where is some metal, where is some metal?" I said to myself. Just then, I looked at my gun. Well, I carried some gunpowder with me, that wouldn't be useful. The bullets were made out of lead, but I did have about 10 rounds worth. Maybe if I started a fire I could burn the bullets to create some liquid and I could try to mold it into a stick of lead. But what about the coax and the connetor?
"Oh, it's hopeless," I said to myself. Then I started to get frantic. Minutes seemed to turn into seconds as the darkness came upon me. I wanted to run, go back to the town, but I couldn't. Nothing could stop me from being consumed by it.
