Winter aerial view of the island contrasted with a much nicer summer scene of the lighthouse.

"First time activated. Possible one time activation only. This is a special one. Be sure to work us."
A group of hams from the Hiawatha Amateur Radio Association of Marquette County in Michigan are so very
fortunate to have been granted access to this privately owned island. To the best of anyone's knowledge
this will be the very first time either the island and/or light has been activated. Owners of the
island and renovated lighthouse are Scott and Martine Holman.
This will be a great opportunity for both U.S. Lighthouse and U.S. Island chasers to pick up a rare one.
The lighthouse designator is USA-333.
The US Island designator is MI-080L.
While only a handful of hams will have the opportunity to visit Granite Island in person you'll have the
opporutunity to visit it via the Granite Island Light Station
website. This is a must see website as it offers so many interesting articles about the island,
it's location, and it's history past and present as well as loads of photos of the island and
lighthouse. Look for K8G working SSB, CW, RTTY and PSK31. We should be on most HF bands as
conditions permit. Possibly some six-meter operation if the band is open. Watch for K8G spotted
on the DX Summit and DX-Central.
Scheduled operators: Greg, Pete, Bruce, Rod and Jim pictured below.
