COMMENTS:

I attended my 8th 2-night DXpedition in Grayland, for the first time using a DKAZ with FLG100LN and fixed termination in lieu of the usual (excellent) Beverage. It worked just great and I was very impressed, especially as we "split the difference" with a 270 degree due west orientation, meaning neither DU-land nor Japan were on boresight and yet stations 1 KW or less were heard from each. Japan was received on 50 frequencies, best Hawaiians I've ever heard outside the Islands with 20 in nicely with IDs including Hawaii's "graveyard" station on 1240 all alone. 48 Aussie and NZ "DU" stations "off season" in October was a wonderful haul and the clear ID from KGUM Guam would have to be my best catch. However China and the Koreas were practically absent, as was Alaska. The other downside was no LW, the DKAZ was very low output there. Overall though...great antenna! I joined Chuck Hutton, Bruce Portzer and Chris Black (N1CP) for this 2-night session at the famous DX locale The Grayland Motel. Chris is a former East Coast MW DXer and prior participant in the BADX DXpeditions from Rockport, MA. He has now relocated to the Redmond, WA area. I have been DXpeditioning from Grayland annually during an October weekend since 2007.

HIGHLIGHTS:

Solid "Coast" ID on 1584, a 1 KW station I have never heard from Rockwork 4 with its highly NZ-centric enhancement (perhaps due to the DKAZ being most efficient at the higher MW frequencies). Solid ID from 4BH 882 "Magic". KGUM "K57" Guam solid ID and into CBS news. The many expanded band low-power Aussies above 1600 Khz. New personal record "most distant station" received this DXpedition: 6PNN 1152 (9258 mi / 14901 km) 10 KW with "BBC Sportsworld" program (as per online schedule) and fair to good strength. It's always fun to have 50 or more Japanese stations in, including AFN 1575 Misawa, a US base in Aomori Prefecture that I know well, having been there dozens of times as a USAF Navigator. And finally, 20 Hawaiians with IDs set a new personal record for me.
