Sunshine Report:
ARES/RACES:
Irv reported that they had a good meeting
last month and that the county will purchase a new set of
duplexers but it may take a while to get the funds. The February
[ARES] meeting will be two weeks from tonight here at the
clubhouse. Dennis Decker will be attending at the April or May
meeting. At this next meeting they will be running a bench top
net simulation exercise to practice passing traffic in response
to expressed interest from several people about becoming net
control operators. This years field day activities will be a
joint ARES/LARA event. They are in the process of scouting
locations and equipment. There is talk about getting VHF radios
transferred the county but the policies are being reviewed by the
county. They are putting together an emergency management plan.
The third Monday night of each month will be a simplex training
exercise night to practice passing simplex traffic.

Old Business:
New Business:
John W8KCE
suggested the idea of having a family day/picnic here
at the clubhouse before it gets too hot. It was agreed that we
would hold the event on March the 12th beginning at
10am and running till 2pm.
Board meeting
will be held on the 19th of this month here at the
clubhouse after testing. Our financial advisor will be on hand so
anyone with ideas or suggestions are encouraged to attend. It
would be nice but not required to know beforehand if you plan on
attending.
K4NON has decided
to part with her Commodore 128 and all associated paraphernalia.
It has a functional TNC and much other equipment and does work.
He would like to sell it and all proceeds will go to the
ARES/RACES treasury. It was decided to auction the equipment and
Jim Kelley K4YBB acted as auctioneer and the equipment sold for
$40.00 but the generous winner donated an extra $10.00.
Irv was contacted
about inventorying and selling the equipment of a disabled ham
operator. A list of the major components in the collection was in
a letter that was present at the meeting. The equipment is
located in the Tavares area and anyone interested in helping to
assess the equipment, see Irv for details.
Chauncey inquired
about the code practice sessions that Tom has been too busy
recently to hold. Jim was running practice three nights a week.
He repeatedly asked for check-ins and transmitted his phone
number and asked any unlicensed listeners to call, during the
course of his sessions, he received 1 contact so he gave up.
David brought up
the pile of aluminum that resides in the shed. He asked if the
club would be interested in doing something with it. The club
deferred to the engineer who suggested that David take the metal
to add to his collection.
QCWA:
Roger reported
that they have a net on Tuesday night at 7:30 on the 390 machine.
He encouraged anyone with 25 years in amateur radio to join the
organization. They meet on the 3rd Saturday of each
month at Barnhills restaurant by the Lake Square Mall at
noon.
Elmer session
The 50/50 drawing was won by Neil K4JE.
