Honda ST1300 Brake Light LED bulbs
The ST1300 uses #7443 dual filament incadescent bulbs as running and brake lights. The idea of using a "back off" type brake light flasher is the main reason behind changing them out to LEDs. The LEDs flash much better than incandescents and they consume far less power while providing more light output with a fraction of the generated heat.
To access the rear tail lamps, it takes removal of the side cases and four 5mm cap head bolts. Two of the bolts are seen when looking above the license plate. The other two are along the inside top of the rear fender. Once the plate holder is out of the way the sockets pop out after a 90 degree twist counter coockwise (to the left).
The bulbs are friction fitted into the sockets and pull out without issue. Below are pictures of before and after shots of the tail less the license plate bracket.
I purchased these bulbs through Amazon. They come with a one year warranty through the vendor. The model number is iBrightStar. Amazon makes it easy to track the purchase date as well as reproduce a receipt in case of a failure.
The pictures were all taken with a fixed exposure of 1/100th, F5.6 ISO 400. The factory run is just barely visible at that exposure where the LED is saturated. The factory brake level is bright but the LED is off the chart brighter.
The only issue I can find is that the white incandescent light was also used to illuminate the license plate. I will be installing white LED plate bolts to fix that.
