The
Amateur Radio
Emergency Service (ARES) is a nationwide
organization of amateur radio operators, under the auspices
of the Amateur Radio Relay League (ARRL), who are dedicated
to providing communications in times of national, regional,
state, county and local emergencies.
The Buncombe County ARES organization maintains trained and credentialed volunteers who provide their time and equipment for auxillary communications to Buncombe County Emergency Services, other served agencies and to Mission Hospital’s emergency Winlink communications system when requested.
We regularly provide communication assistance in the field to public service events in and around Buncombe County, in virtually all conditions and without compensation. We know how to get critical as well as routine information rapidly communicated, by many technical means, in a professional manner. Seconds count and we know it.
On occasion, our members also assist other Amateur Radio Clubs or ARES groups who need our expertise and additional operators for their public service events.
