Simple block or “concept” diagrams of a receiver, see Table 2.
4c.1 Identify the items in a simple receiver block diagram and recall their order of interconnection:
antenna, feeder, radio tuning and RF amplification, detection/demodulation, audio amplification and loudspeaker or headphones.
The drawing shows the basic parts of a receiver.
The antenna picks up the RF signal from the air.
The feeder is the cable that connects the antenna to the input of the receiver.
The tuner and RF amplifier filter out many unwanted signals and the frequency required is amplified.
The detector or demodulator extracts the audio signal from the RF signal.
The Audio Amplifier amplifies the audio to a level that will create a sound in the speaker which can be picked up by our ears.
The loudspeaker
converts the audio electrical signal to an audio signal that vibrates
the air which causes the eardrum to vibrate so the sound can be heard.
Headphones can be used in place of the speaker.
