2. Matilda DOWN⁽¹⁾ was born in 1862 in Exeter, Devon. She died in 1907.

She was married to Thomas GRINT (OR GRIST) in 1880. Thomas GRINT (OR GRIST)⁽¹⁾ was born in 1857 in Camden Town, Middlesex. He died in 1915. at the time of the 1881 census

We must assume from this that the family moved to London from Devon between 1871 and1877

It is also interesting to note that George Charles Down was not living in this household on this date. Matilda DOWN and Thomas GRINT (OR GRIST) had the following children:

8 i. John (Jack) GRIST (OR GRINT) was born in Mar 1895 in Barnet, Herts. Was a watchmaker/jeweller and after retirementt (in the early '50s) he took a pub the Three Crowns in Long Lane, Stanwell, Middx. this was substantiated by both Vic Down (son of Arthur (Tom)) also Dick Down (son of Percy) who both remember visiting the pub on numerous occasions.
