My operator name is Valentin (short nickname is Val). Actually my radio hobby begans more that 5 years ago from CB radio. In 1996 I have got my first CB station - President Wilson. After that in 1998 I have got an amateur license. From that time I'm active on all bands. On the photo below you can see, how I'm look like on my working conditions.

I'm on my shack

I like to spend my free time near the transceiver, even during our trips on the car. Here is I operate from the mobile conditions.

I work from the mobile conditions

I like DX-ing on the various bands, but my favorites are 20m and 15m SSB. The air conditions are quite good here during the year, so I take part in every big contest, such as ARI International DX Contest, European HF Championship, etc. Most of all I prefer participate in SSB contests in "Low Power" category. My achivements are :

  • ARI Int. DX Contest 2001 : 1st Single Op. - SSB Belarus
  • CQ WPX SSB Contest 2001 : 1st Single Op. - 21MHz Belarus
  • WAG Contest 2001 : 1st Single Op. - CW/SSB Belarus
  • WAEDC SSB Contest 2001 : 1st Single Op. - Belarus

By the way, the number of radioamateurs in Belarus is approximately 1200 and we have 7 radio amateur regions. Here they are:

  •   EU1-EW1 - Minsk city
  •   EU2-EW2 - Minsk area
  •   EU3-EW3 - Brest area
  •   EU4-EW4 - Grodno area
  •   EU6-EW6 - Vitebsk area
  •   EU7-EW7 - Mogilev area
  •   EU8-EW8 - Gomel area
The callsigns which have a prefix "EV" or 5,9,0 digits are special callsigns.

Here you can see license classes (A, B, C), bands and maximum power for radioamateurs
Frequency, MHz Power, W
Class A Class B Class C
144/440 50 25 10
28,000 - 29,700 500 100 10
24,890 - 24,990 500 - -
21,000 - 21,450 500 100 -
18,068 - 18,168 500 - -
14,000 - 14,350 500 100 -
10,100 - 10,150 500 - -
7,000 - 7,100 500 100 -
3,500 - 3,800 500 100 -
1,810 - 1,930 10 10 -

There are a few rules to get the amateur license here:

  • Written exam
  • CW practice (optional)

The pretender to the any class must to pass written exam by the basic knowledge of radio. After that it is no need to pass the CW exam for the C class so the C class licensed stations can't work on CW. For other classes necessary to pass an exam by CW : 40 simbols per minute for B class and 75 simbols per minute for the class A.

For example my license class is B-Class. Because of this I can't work on the WARC bands due to license limitation.
