Welding on the cage and erecting Vhf/Hf aerials cage in hall

welding cage to top section

Bringing the top section of the mast into your hall and welding the cage onto it is probably asking for trouble

Anyway that's how Tony managed to align the cage and weld it up, my intention was to bolt and tack the cage on the top section of mast but this did not work out

You can see the hole outside the front door 1/2 filled with water, this is the 1st stage in my next project, a 20x15 foot by 2 ft deep pond to take coldwater fish

The first aerial I tried, just to get something up on the mast was a VHF vertical, this view was taken from upstairs in the house, through a Velux rooflight

144 and 50 mhz aerials

This photograph taken at dusk shows a 5 ele homebrew yagi for 50mhz over a 13 ele NBS yagi for 144mhz

Looks like 50 mhz has had it for this solar cycle, the 6mtr beam has just taken down and is lying in the back garden. It is time to sample hf again

triband erection

This iamge shows the boom and the reflector of my Triband Beam, a TA-33 senior that is at least 25 years old, I will have to put this yagi up in a number of stages as it is a one man job right now

mast tilted over

Mast dropped over, driven element and director fitted, balun to be cleaned up and coax to be connected, the fact that the 2 aerials are so close have caused me no problems so far, no sign of any interaction

array erected

Hf and Vhf aerials up and running, its dusk again so time for a break, before the night was over the 144mhz coax cable snagged and the Hf balun broke off the triband, these problems were solved next morning

close up of hf and vhf beams

Close up of the system as it stands at present, had some fun on 28mhz, had good chat with Steve W7CI who I worked on 50 mhz about a year ago.
Called in to the IRISH HOUR on 21.317 which runs on Sunday afternoons and had a relaxing evening, surprised at the signal strength of Ian EI3Y in Kildare who was up to S-7 in Cork

It has been an interesting and reasonably difficult project which has taken 5 months to complete, I have never built anything as daunting, other than this house which I built by direct labour. Thanks to Tony who did a great job and to the lads at work who helped me when necessary also to EI7IR Paraic always ready to discuss a problem over the phone

EI7IR has now erected a horizontal yagi for 144mhz and is qrv on 144mhz with signals up to 5/7 here

The next webpages I will work on will describe 144/432 mhz, 2 and 4 way power splitters that I have built

I hope you have enjoyed looking at this design, any comments would be appreciated. Look forward to meeting you on HF/VHF

Best wishes, EI5FK Charles 73's
