Manila
The project
of the Filipino League of Amateur Radio Enthusiasts, Inc. (FLARE, INC.),
is the “DX1FLR PMBO” (Participating Mail Box Office) is an unmanned ham
radio setup of multi-band HF and VHF transceiver, a Pactor and Packet modem, and
a laptop with 24/7 internet connection. The HF in Pactor mode is used for long
haul, while VHF is for short distance or line of site contacts.
“The Winlink
2000 is a messaging system (that can include e-mail), where messages are
transferred by RF and it can have an internet component. It is not a single
program, but a suite of software available for use, free of charge, to licensed
amateur operators. The suite of programs consists of PACLINK, TELPAC and
AIRMAIL”.
“Winlink
2000 is a system that provides radio digital backup (during network “last mile”
disruptions) for SMTP e-mail, using existing e-mail programs, on existing
computers, with no additional invasive software…seamlessly and transparently.”
“Winlink
2000 can function both inside the local area and around the world. From a
disaster area that have no normal e-mail access to the internet. It’s a
robust wireless backup system for SMTP email. It utilizes a full-featured radio
digital message transfer system worldwide.”
“Winlink
2000 is a system that provides email transfer with attachments, map & text-based
position reporting, graphic & text-based weather bulletin services,
and emergency communications are now available to the Amateur
radio community by linking radio to the Internet.”
Licensed ham
in Metro Manila and in VHF line of site are welcome to test and try the “DX1FLR
PMBO” on 144.080MHz packet mode.
We are also
inviting interested ham stations to setup a Telpac Gateway that is ideal for
temporary emergency setup or unattended remote locations where it can deliver
reliable wireless communication to the “last mile”.
