Diameter: 4,35 m

Pressurized Volume: 61,9 m
The module spektr is used to study the composition of the atmosphere.
It contains scientific equipment to the research of natural features in the Land and terrestrial atmosphere.
ACCIDENT IN THE MIR: 1997
In 1997 the Spektr module was reached by a Progress ship during the tests of a new docking system. During the approach the video sign used for the manual conduction of the ship was lost and the Progress shocked against the module spektr, damaging one of the four solar boards and punching the module.
The pressure inside MIR started to fall and the team (commander of mission Vasili Tsibliev and engineer of mission Alexander Lazutkin) started the emergency procedures for this cases. They could have to abandon the station in the ship Soyuz. The faster, the better. However the cosmonauts had bet in the possibility to seal up the gate of access to the Spektr module. This brings serious inconveniences (cut the electricity of the MIR in 50%), beyond not being an easy decision to take when one is in the space leading with an unknown situation.
Despite this, the Spektr module was sealed up and thus it remained until the arrival of the following team (Commander Anatoly Solovyov and engineer Pavel Vinogradov), that made MIR come back to the normal conditions. Exception to the Spektr module that remained sealed up and despressurized.
The mission to fix the Spektr module was formed by Talgat Musabayev and Nikolai Budarin.
