CARLA Comes Full Circle in 2006
Sept. 3, 2006- Carla has come full circle. If you read the first paragraph on the "About Carla" page, you'll see the following:
On Labor Day of 2006, Carla came full circle with the addition of the Carla 15 system on Joaquin Ridge near the town of Coalinga. This system extends Carla's South coverage well past the Fresno area and into the Bakersfield area of central California.C.A.R.L.A. ...was being developed in the early 80's and was revived due to the Coalinga earthquake that shook the area on May 2, 1983. Skip Hamer, N6IRF, and another Ham, Jack Ebury, W6IYY were engaged in conversation with each other about plans for C.A.R.L.A. via telephone between the S.F. Bay Area and Coalinga just before the earthquake struck. And thats not all the news...
During the Labor Day weekend, 2 more repeaters came on the air in the Carla network. Carla 13 is located just north of Lake Shasta with great coverage of the lake and surrounding areas. Lastly, Carla 14 is on the air just East of Truckee with coverage on the I-80 corridor from Truckee to almost Auburn.
The Carla 13 and Carla 15 repeaters are currently basic temporary repeaters with Link PL only. No local PL available yet. We are building up the complete permanent repeaters to full Carla spec (full controllers, Link/Local PL, battery backup, etc.) to replace them as time permits.
And there's more...
The Carla 11 repeater that has been on the air at the Carla Labs in Walnut Creek has recently been linked into the rest of the Carla network of repeaters. This repeater has great coverage on the 680 corridor from 580 in Pleasanton to I-80 in Fairfield. And it can be heard in a few other places as well.
And there's even more...
In mid-November, 2 more repeaters came on the air in the Carla network. Carla 3, which has been looking for a home, is now on the air near Point Arena just West of Ukiah. Its currently standalone but we hope to link it in to the system eventually. And Carla 7, which has been down for a short while, is now back on the air in the South Bay. And its now linked to the rest of the system!
And...
Carla is now connected to the GRS Mt. Vaca Repeater on 440.750+ with a PL of 100.0Hz. If you're in the greater Sacramento Valley area, try Carla 16 on Mt. Vaca.
Here is the current list of new Carla repeaters with freqs, locations, and PL's:
