A Bit More About Me

I'm Andy Westcott, and by now you've probably noticed that I operate a dog walking business. Here's a bit more about me, and how Blackdown Dogs came about:

I like getting out & about walking around our countryside and also enjoy the company of dogs; I have walked dogs many times over the years for friends, relatives and neighbours in a part-time capacity, but due to full-time employment didn't get the chance to get out as much as I'd have liked.

The idea slowly matured that maybe I could combine my love of walking and dogs, and make dog-walking a full-time business. One dark, rainy evening in 2017, after much agonising, analysing of savings and consuming several pot noodles, I decided to take the plunge, prepared my letter of resignation and Blackdown Dogs came into being.

I have a canine first aid certificate, a DBS certificate (this is the private version of the CRB check), third party liability insurance and my vehicle insurance is for business use involving carriage of dogs, as it should be. I'm currently serving Honiton, Dunkeswell, Hemyock, Monkton & Yarcombe, although neighbouring areas can be considered.

On a more personal level, I'm father of 5 and grandfather to 4. I was born on a farm in the Teign Valley which is where I lived for the first 25 years or so of my life, and I have always been surrounded by animals of various kinds, including a number of dogs. These days I live in the village of Dunkeswell, up in the Blackdown Hills.

Although I have had several dogs over the years, I don't currently have one. I am, however, slave to Ollie the cat, and also look after 6 chickens (Gobby, Chicken Jane, Croppy, Stumpy, Dopey and No.2), Otto and Tilly the rabbits, and Nake the snake.

Hobbies and interests include electronics, roughing up playful dogs, palaeontology, wildlife, photography, astronomy, geology and amateur radio, to name a few. I have a great liking for anything scientific, whether it be chemistry, biology or physics. I also enjoy messing around with old electronics such as 1950s & 1960s radio equipment.
