March Member Profile
Marcus Bailey KF4YSD - Marcus
is the Douglas County ARES Coordinator and spends much of his time
working with County EMA Curtis Little improving coordination and
understanding between government and local hams. A General class
licensee,
Marcus was encouraged to become a ham by his brother Paul
K4KJ. Marcus first heard of ham radio by listening to the
scanner and was interested in the communications taking place
on 2 meters. All it took was a slight nudge from K4KJ and Marcus
was on his way. Licensed for three years, his main interests are ATV
(Amateur Television), ARES, HF, and Cross-Band repeating. Marcus
and Paul have spent the last couple months experimenting with
different locations in Douglas County to determine where line-of-sight
ATV signals could be effectively used. Marcus is very
active in emergency communications and has spent time introducing
Amateur Radio and ARES to Douglas County Government officials including Curtis
Little and Sheriff Phil Miller. Showing his dedication to
disaster preparedness, Marcus has obtained certifications for the
following:
ARES Emergency Coordinator (ARRL)
American Red Cross Disaster Action Team
Southern Baptist Disaster Relief
National Weather Service Skywarn Certified
Citizens Law Enforcement Academy
Marcus is a very active member of SCARS and we are glad to honor
him with the March Member Profile.
