W2EMO - APRS APRS

APRS (Automatic Position Reporting System) was developed by Bob Bruninga, WB4APR, for tracking and digital communications with mobile GPS equipped stations with two-way radio. In the 9 years since its introduction, it has grown to encompass just about every aspect of Amateur Radio.

I am very active with APRS, maintaining a full-time base station setup for my RACES group (WC2AGO) and a mobile tracker system.

Open one of the links below to check out maps of my APRS activity.

For my mobile setup, I use an Alinco DR-135TP radio with the built-in TNC. Click here for the DR-135TP setup information.

Click here for the APRS Search Page. Locate APRS stations using a variety of search options.

I also use pocketAPRS, an APRS program that runs on a Palm-compatible PDA. pocketAPRS provides the fundamental operating functions of the APRS system: object plotting on detailed maps in real time, display of location from local GPS, listings of station and object information, interactive messaging including receipt acknowledgment, display of incoming data stream, control of digital radio communications (station beacon rates and digipeater paths), and compatibility with the data exchange protocol used by the PC-based APRS applications.
Additional features of pocketAPRS include scrolling map display, high map data density, automatic control of display detail based on zoom settings, "one-touch" commands of major functions, and on-screen menu for object data manipulation. The design philosophy behind pocketAPRS is to maximize APRS network value through an easy-to-use and unobtrusive interface.
