GPS mouse windows driver issue

Created 9th November, 2017

Windows 10 , Using a VK-172 ublox g-mouse $14 ebay GPS, for when operating portable to time sync your application
software (such as WSJT) when you haven't got access to internet.
Mine used to work up until the last Windows10 update (Oct 2017) and now the ublox gps appears as a GPS , not a COM port.
This means BKTtimesync cannot retrieve data from it.

Here is how to fix it :.
We have to turn it back into a com port so, download a virtual COM port (VCP) driver from the ubox resource site
https://www.u-blox.com/en/product-resources
look for "gnss VCP device driver for Windows v3.10" and install it. now go into Windows 10 Device Manager , look at COM ports,
click onto the COM?? gps and go into Advanced Settings to change it to com5 or something sensible.

Now download NMEATIME2. install and run it, top left corner of the screen says tools, click on gps and move cursor
to the right, set com port to com5 9600 baud and off it goes.

Note that BKTtimesync on my Windows10 Dell notebook wouldnt look at the com5 virtual com port,
hence the reason for using NMEATIME2. it's a 30day trialware.
have fun, 73 Dave vk2jds
