ARRL June VHF Contest

Hello Every One Just thought I would let you all know what I have been up to on the weekend. I had entered the ARRL June VHF contest. The object is to talk to as many people in as many different places. Of course I had to put an extra twist on it by operating from my car. I had planned to operate on 6m, 2m, 70cm and 23cm using vertical antennas on all bands except 23cm which I had a 23 element beam. So on Saturday morning I loaded up the car and took off to Forks of the Credit park (Caledon East) (FN03 - EN93 depending on where you park!) I operated there and made around 10 contacts, most of them local but a few in Texas and New Mexico. From there I puttered along to Brisbrane (EN93) and made another 15 contacts. Again most of them local but a few in Florida and the US east coast. On Sunday I got a late start missing an opening to the East Coast of Canada. It was also raining - hard so I had to leave the 23cm antenna at home, as it has to hang out the open window while I drive. I made a brief stop south of Orangeville (again EN93) and made 7 more contacts in Florida. After getting board with Florida I drove up to Mono (EN94) and boy was it foggy! I had a lot of trouble finding a hill to stop on. By the time I found a spot the radios were silent. I kept my self occupied by playing with the VC-H1 (see pictures) and reading. While keeping my self busy a White tailed deer popped up on the other side of the road to see what was going on! Of course I didn't manage to get a picture of the Doe as the camera was now buried under cables, tuners and paper. After sitting and waiting out the rain and poor band conditions hunger gave in so I headed home. Over all I only end up with a score of 1008 but I am not complaining. I had I lot of fun and learned a lot about contesting while rover. Next time I will plan to add some horizontal antennas for all the bands and have them mounted to the car so bad weather won't hamper my fun!
