2004 PNWVHFS Conference

Latest Conference News:

President N7CFO will arrive at the conference site on Thursday and will be posting pictures and other information on his conference page.

Icom America

Icom America has stepped up and provided major support to the 2004
Pacific Northwest VHF Conference, set for Moses Lake, Washington, on
October 1-2.

Amateur Division Manager Ray Novak (N9JA) will send an equipment display…including the new IC-7800…to the conference, along with a company representative to demonstrate the gear. Icom will also provide six transceivers as door prizes; a pair of T2H 2-meter handhelds, a pair of IC-V8A 2-meter handhelds and a pair of IC-2200H mobile rigs.

In addition, N9JA has been instrumental in putting conference organizers
in contact with a nationally known speaker with strong 50 MHz and above
credentials.

Many thanks to Icom America and Ray Novak (N9JA) for their support.

The program looks to be as follows:

Well-known VHF DXer and author Dennis Motschenbacher (K7BV/1) will
kick off the program schedule with an informative and entertaining introduction to the thrills of using VHF meteor scatter to make DX
contacts with a very modest station and antenna. While a fairly recent addition to the ranks of VHF operators, Dennis is already a "certified obsessive-compulsive fanatic." (Check out his 4 x 7-el array)

K7BV first jumped onto the six-meter band as a "newbie" in the spring of
2002 after moving to Connecticut to join the ARRL as Sales and Marketing
Manager. Since then, he has made himself a steady fixture on six meters.
Despite discovering the higher bands after the fantastic sunspot peak F2
openings, Dennis has still managed to rack up 92 countries and 49 states
in his relatively brief tenure on 50 MHz. He has also discovered the fun
and challenge of WSJT modes and has worked 36 states and more than 100 grids on six-meter meteor scatter.

The full list of conference programs is shown below.

Following a brief PNWVHFS business meeting, the society's annual
awards will be presented and, at 4:00 pm, the door prize drawings
will be conducted.

Mark your calendar now! The 2004 Pacific Northwest VHF+ Conference will be held October 1-2 at the Best Western Hallmark Inn Moses Lake. You won’t want to miss it. Conference registration will open August 1,2004.

Cost of the conference will be $25 per person, including a buffet lunch. More registration details are available in the Fall 2004 issue of Noise Floor.

Conference Registration is now open. Download the Registration Form and get it mailed in ASAP to reserve your spot.

Special conference lodging rates of $55 per night (one queen-size bed; $60 for two queen-size beds) have been negotiated. Make your reservations early as the block of rooms with special rates will be held by the hotel only until September 1, 2004. After that date, rooms will only be available at the regular rate of $75.

To make a reservation, call the Hallmark Inn directly at (509) 765-9211 and ask for the special “PNWVHFS Conference” rate. Using the Best Western toll-free number or web site to make reservations may not guarantee you the special conference rate.

Prior to the conference, PNWVHFS is sponsoring a special "Rove-In" contest to help spread the word of VHF weak signal operation and the annual conference. This will also give everyone something to do on the drive in to the conference site and help serve as a "talk-in" as well.

Friday night we will have our traditional Pizza Dinner at Chico's Pizza. See map below for location. Further information regarding timing will be available soon.
