1) Always use minimum digipath.
2) Fixed stations should
beacon every 20 to 60 minutes.
3) Fixed weather stations
should beacon every 9 minutes.
4) Mobiles may beacon once
a minute for special events or every 3 to 5 minutes for normal ops.
5) When a mobile station
arrives at its destination its beacon should be stopped or adjusted to
fixed station rate.
6) Use APRS VIA WIDE in
metro areas. Better to specify a unique digi (callsign).
7) Use APRS VIA WIDE, WIDE
for regional coverage. Better to specify fixed call in place of second
WIDE.
8) Fixed stations may set
path of APRS VIA RELAY, WIDE. When local relay is found a specific
callsign should replace first digi.
9) For information for a
national audience use APRS VIA WIDE, GATE. This is for rare occasions.
10) Seldom do you use APRS VIA
WIDE, WIDE, WIDE. Use this only from remote areas if it is your only option.
11) Extended use of keyboard-to-keybaord
contacts is discouraged, especially on HF.
12) All fixed stations should
set the TNC's MYALIAS os similar alias command to RELAY.
13) Mobile stations should use
RELAY, WIDE or RELAY, WIDE, WIDE in cities.
14) Do not enable GATEWAY function
of your TNC unless you're the only GATEWAY.
15) Never digi on HF unless both
stations can't hear each other.
16) Whenever possible use a direct
path to chat.
17) If a direct path is not practical
use a specific digi callsign.
18) When events or info are intended
for a specific area use exact callsigns of the digi's necessary for reliable
communications.
19) If your info is not of value
hundred miles away, restrict the path.
20) Consult local experts or experiment,
these are only guidelines.
