As things have been in flux for a bit, I have not been on the air.  Hoping to remedy that soon.

HAM & Shortwave RADIO, General Tinkering and other past times

Here is a quick list of some of my toys:

And my latest project:

Hammarlund HQ-150 General Coverage Receiver. HQ-150

I picked this up for a mere $25.  Someone was actually going to throw it in the trash!!!  I offered my friend $25 to go pick it up for me.  After a few evenings staring at the schematics (yes, it came with the original 1958 manual) I was able to remove the previous owners "mods".  A few new solder connections, a few less shorts and it came to life!  This radio has great Sensitivity.  The Selectivity isn't the best, but the radio really works quite well.

Want to build a simple code practice oscillator?

Here is one that I have used with the Scouts on several occasions.  Speaker, Caps and Resistors are scavenged from an old PC.  This is not rocket science, if your part values are close, it should work.  Any 555 timer chip will work (RadioShack Catalog #: 276-1718 or equivalent).

Where would we be without some CW abbreviations? cw_abbrev.htm

Here is my idea for a Foot Switch for Push-To-Talk operation.
