Tonight's District nets starting at 1930 hours will use the 2-meter W6TRW repeater cross-linked with the 440 Rolling Hills repeater; our 2-meter TAC-1 simplex frequency; our 220 simplex frequency with an NBEMS message following the voice portion; the 440 PV-West repeater; and conclude with another NBEMS message on 2-meter TAC-1. All DCS members and members of the South Bay city-affiliated disaster amateur radio groups are encouraged to check in.

Last Tuesday's Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District drill had several sites where the 220 radio equipment no longer functions...but there are no new 220 replacement units being sold. We continue to explore whether the District's amateur radio emergency communication net can be moved to the 70cm band (440) which also requires replacing the building-mounted exterior antenna at nearly every school.

Please sign up to help with our District nets or to provide our District report on the weekly County net. We encourage you to come to the Lomita station or operate from home. Even without good simplex coverage you could do the main net on the crosslinked repeaters from home. Scripts and the net assignments are on the District website. Contact me at [email protected] with any Monday when you can help. The 48 hour participation requirement will again be enforced this year.

If you obtained your ham radio initial license or last license renewal during March-June 2014 you will need to take action very soon to renew your license, including paying the new $35 fee for a 10-year license. Simple-to-follow instructions are on the ARRL website in a freely-accessible page at: https://www.arrl.org/files/file/QST/This%20Month%20in%20QST/2023/10%20october%2023/10%2023%20Somma%20renew%20license%20online.pdf .

We hope you can use the 440 PV-West repeater during non-net hours to keep this frequency active. The PV-West owner's other repeater on this frequency at Running Springs above Redlands with a different PL recently went off the air after losing its transmit site. We would like to ensure PV-West's frequency isn't encroached by another organization.

Tomorrow morning we are operating from the Lomita Sheriff Station as net control for the 1.25m simplex portion of the Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District's Disaster Communications Network monthly drill. We would like having additional operators who can run this net at the Lomita Station on the 2nd Tuesday each month during the academic year. A school district employee usually operates the repeater portion of this monthly exercise. (LMT-02)

Thanks go to our operator team (Deane, S-50; Gary, T-222; Cindy, T-223; Jeff, T-230; and Jeff, T-234) at last Tuesday's Election Night ballot transport operation in Torrance. We all reported to Torrance Airport at the address shown in DCS Election Night instructions but found no LASD activity there. Team members discovered on their own the actual site was four miles away and the rest of us then travelled there. A great job of problem solving by all.

We still need several more operators at the Redondo Beach Super Bowl Sunday 10K/5K on February 11 from 0630-1100 hours (depending on location). Let me know if you can serve at this colorful event between King Harbor and the Riviera Village with plenty of ocean air and nice long-sleeve T-shirts for all who volunteer. This is an approved DCS activity with hours including travel time counting towards the 48-hour annual minimum. Communication is again using the Palos Verdes Estates NART group's W6PVE 440 repeater which offers excellent coverage of the entire 10K/5K route. We'll also be working with hams who are Redondo Beach Police Department Volunteers.

We encourage you to use the 440 PV-West repeater during non-net hours to keep this frequency active. The PV-West owner's other repeater on this frequency at Running Springs above Redlands with a different PL recently went off the air after losing its transmit site. We would like to ensure PV-West's frequency isn't encroached by another organization.
