The 1996 West Coast VHF/UHF Conference "International Style" Fox-hunt

On Sunday May 5th, 1996, several hams participated in the second "International Style" fox-hunt to be held in California. The hunt was held at Hillcrest Park in Fullerton.

An interesting feature of this hunt was the ability of the hunters to form teams. Although the hunters had to compete as individuals, each hunter's score could be applied to his team's score, and prizes were awarded for both individual as well as team performance.

This year, OCRACES fielded a team of five members. This crack team consisted of Byon Garrabrant (N6BG), Randy Holland (KO6KC), Ken (KM6YH) and Tom (KD6AAN) Mirabella, and Steve Sobodos (KN6UX). Also present were the Official OCRACES Team Cheerleaders, consisting of Rachael Kent (KE6GIO) and Lara (KD6AYO), Scotty and Timmy Garrabrant. Although our team placed second overall, one of our members, Byon Garrabrant, took the grand prize of the event, finding all five "Ts" in less than an hour!

All in all, the event was lots of fun, and our team is looking forward to the next "International Style" Fox-hunt! If you would like to see some photos of the event, click here!
