Welcome to the
Shack Of

and KC4ACD (Sebastian)
Harrison!!

Our Station As Amateur Radio offers many differant intresting areas, that I want to try out, the "Shack" is always changing, just like my pages here, some times fast, other steps slower due to the cost of trying out those new areas. So please stop back in if you don't see what you might be looking for this time, or just E-mail me!

-UPDATE- As of December the 12th, 2005 I have upgraded to GENERAL, so I have moved forward in experimenting with HF antennas, and collecting more working or restorable Heathkit SB gear.

,br> I have wanted to join the Amateur Radio Community since around 1976, my first attemps in front of the old FCC were not successful. I left the US in 1981 after finishing High School, and worked for the US Army in Germany, as well as some German companies. After returning to the US in 1998, and being transfered to my persent locations, I found out that a few of my customer's where I work are a ham's. This re-sparked my interest in getting my ticket, which I finally did in August 2001, when I was granted my Technician ticket.

My wife Angie wanted to prove that she could also do it, and received her ticket in Febuary 2002. When the band is open, you may hear me on VHF or UHF SSB, answering your CQ, here in EM96. I seem to do alot more listening, than calling CQ myself!

My real enjoyment is with 6mtr. when the band stays open long enough to do some DX ragchewing, either in voice, or with PSK31. It seems to be a good kept secret, that the "Magic Band" can be more fun than than HF!

I also like the fast pace of working VHF/UHF contest, but due to the requirements of work, I don't get to take part as often as I would like.

I was bitten bad by the Amateur Satellite bug, in the fall of 2002. I have had fun building new antennas, to see how cheaply you could get on some of the birds. It can be done! I will be adding a Satellite page soon to my personal links. In the mean time do a search for "K5OE", as Jerry has some real nice plans for low or no budget antennas.

The Control Center
Of Our Shack

Right of center This is another view the basment Shack, it's about 12' X 10', with a good amount of counter, and shelf space, but wait till I get involved in a big project.... and there seems never to be enough room!!! When I am not in this Shack, I am at the other Shack, the RadioShack store where I work!

At the present the main rig is the Kenwood 2000X, with a Heil Goldline mike. It is powered with the Astron 35M. On the shelf above the Rotor control boxes, is an old trusty Hallicrafter's SX-110 SW Receiver, to listen in on the broadcast bands of Short Wave. After my years in Germany, I still like from time to time to listen in on what is going on, and keep my ears in tune, to the German language.

Above the Kenwood is part of my vintage collection, the main piece being the SB-110A, 6mtr SSB tube rig, SB-600 Speaker/powersupply, and SB-610 Scope. Next to the PC monitor on the lower shelf is my hombrew SSTV/PSK-31 Interface.

On the other side of the room I have a restored Heathkit SB-102, SB-600 speaker with an HP-23 powersupply installed, and a SB-630 Station Console. At this time I am still looking for a fitting Hi-Z mike element to get it on the air, as the Lo-Z element just does not cut it on vacuum tube rigs.

No communications without
A "Transmission Array"!!

A3S Tri-bander HF Beam At the present time we have chosen not to install a tower, due to the major factor COST, but we do have quite number of Antennas to work with!! On HF I currently have a BTV-4 Hustler Vertical, A3S Cushcraft Tri-Bander Beam, G5RV Dipole, and in planning are dipoles specificaly cut for 60mtr., and 160mtr.. At a later time my MFJ 3el. 6mtr. Beam will be mounted above the A3S, as it is down for repairs presently.

Sat tracking antennas The Satellite antennas are on another RS 19foot telescopic mast, mounted on the back porch's concreat slab, and afixed to the rear of the house. The rotor make-up is out of the AARL's "Satellite Anthology" book, however I use still a manuell rotor box tracking. The 2mtr. Uplink antenna is the Crushcraft 148-11, and the 70cm Uplink/Downlink is the M2 430CP30, 1.2ghz beam also from M2, and for AO-40's 2.4ghz Downlink I have a unit from "K5GNA" which works quite good for it's size.
