I drove around the back roads of SW VA a few weeks ago, revisiting the area where my wife, recently deceased, served as a Volunteer in Service to America (VISTA). Drove up Lick Skillet Hollow, saw the Tumblng Creek Primitive Baptist Church, and visited the Hayter's Gap Community Center. When my wife was a VISTA she had a lending library in the trunk of her car (1965). When I visited the community center, I was able to check my e-mail via an internet computer. What a wonderful transformation. I can see threads of the past, and yet there has been a remarkable improvement for the people of that region. Robert Smith

Hi Mr. Morgan sir! Your website is very impressive. You did an excellent job. If you keep the Poor Valley Gazette very long It will begin to loose it's Poor Valley reputation. It could turn into "Rich Valley." Ha! Ha! Just kidding. I think Saltville has been booming a lot lately also. I really miss the times I had at old R.B. Worthy High. I still remember our school song where we all sang on our way back home in the evenings on the school bus. We were THe Shakers and WE Still Are. Thanks again for introducing me to your website. I will tell others about it. Don, Well I finally made it here to check out your page since you gave me the address about a week ago. I especially enjoyed all the items from the past, such as, "Orange Crush in a brown bottle" to mention but one. Many things that I saw listed, I had not thought of in many year. But, thanks to your recollections, I had many a memory coming rushing back in I think we need to remember those things, Don. It was a much simpler time, as compared to today. And, many a time I wish we could go back but it is inevitable that things can and do change. But, not necessarily for the better. Sometimes I think that some of the so called progress is more digression than anything else. Take care Don, and thanks for all your efforts in doing what you are doing. All My Best, Mike

Don: What a fun web page you have. I thoroughly enjoyed it and have printed several parts of it for Junior, N4VL who is at this writing not yet a computer guru [but we're working on him!] Being a native West Virginian your rendition of "Almost Heaven" was greatly enjoyed. I think you've got a really super web site and have invited my two sons Bob and John to take a look at it as well. Take care Don and I look forward to "on-the-air" communications with you. Also would like to receive an e-mail from you at your leisure. Best wishes and 73's, Harry, W4FD, ex: KK4X
