Welcome to the website of amateur radio station KK1VT. I presently hold an advanced class license and was first licensed in 1993 as KA1ZVZ. My wife, Cheryl - KB1JBT and my daughter, Mekah - KB1JBS were licensed in December of 2002. I enjoy homebrewing my equipment and operating QRP. Our QTH is in the town of Waitsfield, a small resort town at the foot of the Green Mountains of Vermont.

I am active on HF and VHF. I operate a Yaesu FT-840, Heathkit HR-1680 superhet receiver that I use in conjunction with my homebrew transmitters, and an 80 meter Little Joe transmitter coupled to a W1FB DC receiver. We run an FT-2600 mobile. I recently installed a four element collinear array cut for 40 meters, and also operate with a 103 foot center fed dipole. I have also used delta loops, and a lazy H with very satisfactory results. I like to operate from remote locations, notably VHF mountain topping. I have a choice of 4,000 foot peaks within a half hour drive of home. My favorite portable antenna for mountain topping is a five element cubical quad. My best VHF QRP DX (aside from the MIR Space Station) was from Mt. Abraham (which is about seven miles SW of our QTH), to Schenectady, NY, just over 100 miles.  (see lower right corner of map above). I was running five watts from a Kenwood TH-28 HT into the cubical quad. I just got on the air with PSK31 using a homebrew Bux Comm Rascal interface and running WinPSKse. PSK31 is a very fascinating mode, it's like digital QRP. I can usually be found on 14.070
