In addition to active participation in radio through the amateur radio service, I also enjoy listening to shortwave broadcasters. Shortwave broadcasts offer a diverse array of viewpoints from countries around the world, including such legendary services as the BBC, Voice of America, Deutsche Welle, and China Radio International. Other shortwave stations are utility stations, such as WWV, which broadcasts the exact time on exactly 5, 10, and 15 MHz. This serves as a ready-reference point for both time and frequency. Unlike the television and radio broadcasters that most of us are used to, shortwave broadcasters tend to change frequency often. Accordingly, it is very important to have a current reference!
