MIDNIGHT RUN RACES

Canines yes, but listen for K 8 Lots Of Dogs

The annual U.P. 200 Sled Dog Race is normally scheduled for the
third weekend of February. The race covers approximately 240 miles through three counties
(Marquette, Alger, Menominee) in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Amateur radio operators are
located at points along the course to monitor the progress of the race and to insure that handlers
and their dog teams have assistance available in necessary.
Traditionaly, each year the Hiawatha Amateur Radio Assn. has operated a special event station
from the race headquarters located in Marquette, Michigan.
This years event is scheduled for February 16th through the 18th. The special event station,
K8LOD will be on the air from approximately 2000Z 2/16/07 through 2000Z 2/18/07. The
station will operate SSB in the general class portions of 80 through 10 meters as conditions
warrant. Some PSK31 operations make take place.
