Tahiti-Polynesia, an overseas territory of France, consists of about 35 islands and 83 atolls scattered over a large area of the southeastern Pacific Ocean. It is home to about 220,000 people. Moorea, a heart shaped island about 9 miles from the northwest shore of the main island of Tahiti, has a population of about 12,000.
