Each fall the Alamogordo Amateur Radio Club hosts a
hamfest.
The hamfest is usually on the Labor Day holiday
weekend. The hamfest is usually located at the Otero County
Fairgrounds in north Alamogordo just east of Highway 54/70.
Hams from all over New Mexico and West Texas
provide an ample variety of used rigs, test equipment and parts on
tables available inside the facility. There are always a number of
private and commercial vendors that come to the hamfest each year.
Some bring a variety of hard-to-find parts and new rigs, antennas and
supplies.
Meeting rooms are always available for special
interest groups and VE testing is scheduled throughout the day.
The well known W5PDY (now a silent key), Joe
Knight, never failed to show up representing ARRL.
In the evening there is always the delicious
Hamfest banquet. One is always surrounded by good food and good
friends.
There is always entertainment provided after the
meal.
