Our Quest for a Radio Room

Work request #507320 was sent to facilities on May 18, 1999. This attachment went with it to explain our needs.

As of early July 2001, we now have some space allocated to the ham shack. It is in building 1 in the area behind door 149.

If we put up a free-standing tower it will likely be made by Rohn Tower Company. Here are some PDF files I downloaded from their web site describing their freestanding towers.

One big disadvantage to a freestanding tower is that we may or may not be able to get permission to climb it to work on the antennas. If this turns out to be the case, we will probably want to check out some telescoping towers. Here are some of the options sorted first by tower height and second by cost. Note that I can't find any recent references to Tri-Ex towers - they appear to have vanished around January of 2001 when they were sold and FirstCall became their distributer.

Kris Gulleen of AMD facilities is the person assigned to plan and implement the ham shack. Other facilities folks who seem to know about this and support it include Art Rodriguez, Dennis Huddleston and Dan McKenan.
