Welcome to Home Made Junk

GW6HMJ is a Welsh Amateur Radio Station

Back on air 10/04/2005

Operated by Arthur Upcott from Bridgend in South Wales.

I have held a Ham Licence since 1982 and as the title suggests will have a go at (re-)building anything (Cars, Bikes, Radios, Houses even Caspian 1911's when we were allowed to keep them...IPSC.) FINISHED projects usually work unless I've been too enthusiastic with the Gas-Axe!!!

The station currently consists of Yaesu FT920, Kenwood TS680S, Yaesu FT726. Main HF Antenna is a G5IJ, a non resonant length of 300 ohm ribbon feeder fed by a balun from 50 ohm coax that is literally strung around the garden fence at 5 feet above ground level. Though not the most efficient setup it will match 160m through 6m at better than 1.5:1 using an ATU and is almost covert in its appearance. I have also built a helically wound version into a three metre length of vertical water pipe (UPVC) which works well on 7Mhz up.
