"Welcome to my first web page on the net, I'm glad you dropped by. For a first attempt I've just posted a little info about myself and my Amateur Radio interests - pics and lot more goodies to come as I teach myself this "black art" HI!

If you have any questions, or would just like to drop me a line, please send email to: {[email protected]}.

MY INTERESTS

I've been licenced for about 35 years - I got my call when I was just 15 Years old.

Over those 35 years I have specialised in the LF bands working more than 210 Countries on 160 Metres. I love trying new antennas and comparing them to existing ones on all bands from 160 through to 6 Mtrs. I've just put up a Titanex V160s 87ft Vertical for 160/80/40 Mtrs (as used on Spratly Island 9M0C). I'll post a review shortly.

I'm fascinated with Propagation and have found the 6 metre band to be a real eye opener to the way that the sun drives our ionosphere.

I,m a keen CW operator and member of the prestigious First Class Operator's Club. (there are only 500 members worldwide)

As a keen DX,er I am on the committee of the Chiltern DX Club and UK DX foundation.

Over the past 6 years I have been lucky enough to travel to remote and exotic parts of the world to play Ham Radio, heres some of the things I have done :-

CAMEL TROPHY

I was one of the Team members that provided communications for the Camel Trophy Expedition from remote parts of the world, including Sabah Malaysia, Argentina,Paraquay,Chile,Belize, El-Salvador. Twenty teams from around the world compete in a 1'000 Mile drive through Jungle and Desert terrain for the coveted Camel Trophy. Besides the teams there are a fleet of support crews in another twenty vehicles all followed by some 250 or so Press Radio and Television journalists.

Our Job was to provide the local and global communications for these people - quite a task. Amateur Radio was not forgotten either - we always took a 25Mtr portable tower and selection of beam and wire antennas! Over the 5 Years I was involved we operated as G4SMC/8R1, G4SMC/9M6, G4SMC/LU,G4SMC/CE1, V31RD.

JY7SIX

In 1994 I was invited to join the team of JY7SIX a DXpedition to put Jordan on 6 Metres for the first time. Whilst there I also found time to operate under my own call on HF as JY8ED.

9M0C

I was proud to be involved in this operation organised by the Chiltern DX Foundation in the uk. We made over 65000 QSO's in just 12 days from Palau Layang Layang in the Spratly Islands.
