       The Republic of Belarus is a land locked country. It is situated in Eastern Europe. The Republic borders on Russia, Poland, the Ukraine, Lithuania and Latvia. It has an area of 207600 square kilometres and a population more of than 10 million. 64 per cent of the population live in cities.Administrativily the country is devided into 6 regions with their centers in Minsk (the capital), Gomel, Brest, Vitebsk, Grodno and Mogilev.

       The climate in Belarus is moderately continenal with a mild and humid winter, a worm summer and autumn. There are several thousand lakes and rivers in Belarus. The lagest lake is Naroch. The biggest rivers are Dnepr, Beresina, Neman, Pripyat'.
       Belarus is Eastern Slavic nation (variosly called Byelorussia, White Russia). Historically part of Crand Duchy of Lithuania, Poland and Russia, it regained it's independence on the 27th of July, 1990.
       The original Belarusian tribes - Krivicy, were relayted to the Baltic nation, and grouped in independent principalities, of which the most powerful was Polatsk, a port and fortress on the river Dvina, which flows into the Baltic Sea.        Minsk is a capital of the Republic of Belarus, it is political, economic, scientific and cultural center. It's one of the oldest and most beautiful cities in our republic. Minsk is situated on the river Svisloch and occupies an area of 200 square kilometers with more than 1.8 million citizens. There are a few photos of Minsk. Click to enlarge.
