C.I.R.C.L.E. 5 JOINS BARKADAHAN 2001

In consonance to the continuing Mamamayan Ayaw Sa Droga (MAD) Campaign, the Barangay Kontra Droga Halad Namon Ha Tacloban (BARKADAHAN ha Tacloban) was launched by the Philippine National Police at 12:00 o'clock noon on 12 January 2001.
Its first public exposure in the City, the club not only joined in the parade but also monitored and assisted in the synchronization of the parade which started from two groups in two different starting points that ultimately converged at the RTR Plaza where the program was held.

C.I.R.C.L.E. 5 JOINS PNP'S CRIME PREVENTION & SUPPRESSION CONCEPT

The Tacloban City Police Station represented by Police Superintendent Doroteo N. Palconit, Chief of Police, and C.I.R.C.L.E. 5 Club President Rey Seno 4F5AWW signed on Monday November 13, 2000 a Memorandum of Commitment that officialy binds the Club with the Philippine National Police (PNP) Crime Prevention and Suppression Concept. The signing ceremony, which was guested by Police Provincial Director Police Superintendent Leon Nilo Aquino de la Cruz was held during the Monday Flag Raising Ceremony of the City's police station. C.I.R.C.L.E. 5 is the only radio group in Tacloban that has been accepted by the local PNP to join in the latter's crime prevention program.

LEYTE LANDING ANNIVERSARY MONITORING ACTIVITY

One of the highlights of this year's Leyte Landing Celebration on 20 Oct 2000 was the Fire Drill and Rescue which was held at the Gleen Marketing, this city right after the Parade. As usual, the group was called upon by City Fire Marshal Sr. Insp. Artemio Tabaranza to participate in the simulated fire drill. The activity culminated successfully.

Through the intitiative of Club Treasurer Engr. Melwin Bajas DU5LFS, the Club recently launched its daily morning hamnet. The club now holds its morning hamnet at 6:30 A.M. daily. DU5LFS is the Net Controller.

REPEATER STATION - SOON!

Plans are now under way for the installation of the Club's repeater station. The repeater is a small homebrewed COR unit owned by President Rey 4F5AWW who donated the unit to the Club. Director for Technical Services Vic DU5GHZ and the Committee Chair Michael DY5WTC will take charge of the installation.

DAILY NET CALL

The Club now holds its daily net call at 6:30 P.M. All club members are enjoined to check-in regularly into our daily net. Stay tuned for the launching of our daily morning ham net. DID YOU KNOW?
  • Apprentice Jonald Lace DY5VJL successfully passed his pledge training with Delta Phi Chapter during the second semester last school year and is the chapter Grand Chancellor for the current school year.
  • Former Associate Reylyn Seno DY5QTN also passed her pledge with Epsilon Omega Chapter last semester.
  • President Rey Seno (formerly DU5AWW) passed the Class A (Advance Class) while Regular Member Moy dela Cruz DU5MOY passed the Class B (General Class) amateur radio exams given by the NTC last May 20, 2000.

    FIRE DRILL, RESCUE & EVAC

    March 29, 2000, Tacloban City, Philippines, 9:00 AM. Once again, the C.I.R.C.L.E. 5 participated in the annual Fire Drill, Rescue and Evacuation of the Tacloban Central Fire Station during the observance of this year's Fire Prevention Month of March. The Drill was conducted at the 7-storey Dynasty Square Commercial Complex along P. Zamora Street, Tacloban City.
    The only accredited radio group of the city fire station so far, volunteer members of C.I.R.C.L.E. 5 provided communication assistance during the fire drill, rescue and evacuation by acting as radio men of every firefighting, rescue units and medical units involved during the drill.
    Volunteer members who participated in the Drill and who were awarded certificates of appreciation by City Fire Marshal Senior Inspector Artemio Tabaranza were: Elias Vivero DU5EUV, Engr.     April 29, 2000, Tacloban City, Philippines, 8:00 PM. During the Board of Directors Meeting which was held at the Home Q of VP Elias Vivero DU5EUV at J. Luna St., this city the folllowing were among the Agenda acted upon:
    1. The C.I.R.C.L.E 5 website at http://www.qsl.net/dx5apo/ was approved as the official web site of the Club;
    2. Membership status of Reylyn Seno DY5QTN from Associate to Regular was approved;
    3. Pending applications for membership were approved;

    5. Maximum age limit for CIRCLE - Y members was amended from 18 to 21 years old;
    6. The Club will advertise in the Special Issue (2nd Alumni Congress) of APO Phils. Torch & Trefoil;
    7. The Club will sponsor and host a Regional Inter-Radio Club Sportsfest tentatively scheduled on June 24-25, 2000. SERVICE ACTIVITY IN CATBALOGAN, SAMAR
    Catbalogan, Samar, Philippines... The C.I.R.C.L.E. 5, Inc. was the official communications group during the 1999 Marathon Contest held here last Sunday, August 22, 1999. More than 100 marathon contestants joined in the 10-kilometer run which was sponsored by the Alpha Phi Omega in connection with the town fiesta celebration.

    The contest started 8 o'clock in the morning at Brgy. Silanga and finished at the Provincial Capitol compound in the heart of the town. A motorcade around the municipality was held earlier before the contest.

    To closely monitor the contest and in order to give any assistance if needed, Leyte and Samar CIRCLE 5 members were stationed at Barangays Payao, Pupua, Maulong and Mercedes and at the finish line. The rest of the group were assigned to mobile units that escorted the runners and to two ambulance units. A makeshift base-control station was set up at the three-storey residence of Bull Cinco "DY5VPC". The RIG used was an ICOM 229H with a matching homebrewed quarter wave extension antenna.

    Except for a lone "casualty" who was rushed to the town hospital, the contest was a successful and an enjoyable activity. A fellowship at the "Sunshine Beach Resort" highlighted the day's activity.
