Filipino hams to join worldwide amateur radio contest...

Amateur radio organization Mabuhay DX Group K6MDX of Los Angeles, California, in cooperation with the Philippine DX Foundation, Inc. (PDXF) and the Philippine Amateur Radio League, Inc. (PARL) will participate in the 1998 CQ WW SSB Contest (CQ Magazine’s World Wide Single Side Band Contest) to be held over high frequency radio waves on October 24-25. The annual the contest pits ham radio operators and radio contest clubs/organizations around the world in a bid to have the most number of actual radio contacts made in a 48-hour period. CQ Magazine, a ham radio magazine based in New York, has been conducting the contest for more than 25 years.

Mabuhay DX Group has sent a delegation from the US headed by one of the MDXG founders Joel L. Pastor WJ1P. PDXF trustee Serafin A. Nepomuceno DU1SAN and several fellow hams will be joining them for the event. Pastor said the group wanted to share the contest experience with the Filipino ham community using high frequency operations. The Philippine group will operate from the Acosta-Pastor Ancestral House in Batangas City. Last year, the Mabuhay DX Group using call sign K6MDX placed in the Top 10 in California in the single transmitter/multi-operator category of the same contest.
