Special Event Station a Smash:
On July 4th 1994 The Driven Elements held a special
even station at Dacus Lake, AR. to commemorate a memorial that the city
of West Memphis, AR was erecting to honor the fallen soldiers from the
Mid - South, that where killed in past wars. This was our first special
event, and we did quite well, the number of contacts was extensive.
Emergency Training was main subject in the past.
Over the years John Ed Farris (N5VJZ), Gregg Boss
(KI5XV), Carl Richardson (KB5FJX) and Sam Lehman K5VBF) have spent many
hours during past meetings training DEARG members how to pass and
receive emergency messages, and how to conduct them selves while passing
this traffic. They have spent many hours setting up and putting on SET's
(Simulated Emergency Tests) so that DEARG members would have a better
feel of what to do during the real thing, and they also
made sure that the local hams had plenty of training by the National
Weather Service, on sever weather spotting, so that all of them would
know what to look for and know when it was time to get to safety. It is
hoped that everyone learned something that will help them in the future,
and maybe even save someone's life some.
1998 Special Event Station (K5M)
In May of 1998 the DEARG held a special event
station at the Marion, Arkansas Esporanza Bonanza. This event is one of
the last BBQ cook-offs before the big Memphis in May BBQ contest. The
DEARG ran a special event station that made plenty of contacts, and was
fun for all involved. The DEARG would like to thank everyone that worked
(K5M) During this event, and we hope to work you all again soon.
