W6PT Field Day 2001 20/80 Statistics
Operators: AK6R, K6LL
Here is a Chart of the number of contacts by ARRL Section. Shows the
effectiveness of our antennas. We only spent 1 hour on 80 meters and 23
hours on 20. We missed SB and VI but worked all other sections. Our
antennas were pointed about 60 degrees and didn't move the entire time.
Obviously the Midwest contacts were key to our success. We often got S9+20
reports from East coast stations Saturday night and Sunday Morning before
daylight.

The next table shows the class of station worked verses mode. The
smaller stations are the bulk of the contacts. Obviously more phone activity
then cw, but cw points are higher than phone points, so high scores need max cw
contacts.

Here are the QSO rate Charts for the 20/80 station.
Red is 20CW
Blue is 20 SSB
Grey is 80CW
Green is 80 SSB
In retrospect it would have been better to forget 80 meters and stay on 20M
since the band was open all night and the rates were very good. Towards
the end of the event, new 20cw contacts were getting scarce, we were getting
tired, and stayed on phone, bouncing back to cw for fresh contacts if we could
find them. For the most part we called CQ the entire contest only spending
a little time on Search and Pounce. We were always able to hold a
frequency.
