The Expedition
The idea of doing the expedition was old, since 1994 when then we were the front of Labre-Am Brazilian League, it appeared, in an it chats between PP8EB Eduardo and PP8KWA Fred, but ever since we never had the opportunity to render that dream, and to place our area in an important national diploma, DIB Diploma of Islands Brazilian Managered for our friend PP5SZ Pedro, which gave us important clues for the success of that expedition.
Our largest problem was to find people that if they identified with the idea and they had assets in DX, because English was essential, at least in phone , because in CW we had in the group a true Expert PP8RL Raul Cézar, now residing in Fortaleza, he moved to help us and that helps!
After a lot of fight the group was formed:
PP8EB Eduardo Borges Coordinating of the Expedition;
PP8KWA Jefferson Antenas and operation SSB;
PP8KB Luiz Ricardo Manager QSL and operation SSB;
PP8RL Raul Cézar CW;
PP8JM José Vieira Antenas and operation SSB;
PP8BV Rubem operation in SSB;
PP8DA Nicolaus Sallay Generators and fuels;
PP8RSS Has. Rucinsky Support logistic from Brazilian Army.
After having formed the group, we went to field to get the support that we needed and the license of IBAMA Brazilian Institute of Environment and of ANATEL Brazilian Telecommunications Agency to use the station ZY8A on the 01 until April 04. It is worth to point out the following people's support that they were responsible direct or indirectly for the success of the Expedition:
1. Lieutenant Rucinsky 12. Cia of Communications of the Army of the Amazonian;
2. Major Commanding Hespanhol the 12. Cia of communications of the Army;
3. Mr. Marco Antonio and Mr. Angelo of NUC / IBAMA that granted us the license for us to be in the base of IBAMA in the archipelago.
4. Commandant Neiras of the Naval Command of the Amazonian Western, that allowed to leave until the island in an embarcation of the Captaincy of Ports.
5. PT2CSM,Morgado with your eternal support in Brasília;
6. PP8JR José Ribamar, with your support in Manaus giving news of the island for our relatives;
7. PP5SZ Coordinating Pedro of DIB in SC;
8. PT7BI Coordinating Daniel from Brazil DX net.
The trip until the Archipelago was calm and pleasant, we went in the Captaincy 04 (name of the motorboat of the Captaincy) with sergeant Menezes and the practical Mr. Rego. We arrived about 10:30h and soon a strong rain, fact fell this that provoked an delay in the beginning of our operations, because set up the station of SSB, in order to non delay the schedule combined with Pedro to open the expedition!
Ready station made our 1 I contact PP5SZ 59, SSB 20 meters, 14.185 soon after we went to 14.260 accepting PT7BI Daniel's idea in Fortaleza, and soon a tremendous pile-up appeared!! in less than 2 hours of operation we already had 300 contacts! Meanwhile, PP8KWA Fred, together with PP8RL Raul and PP8JM Vieira, they set up the station N.2 destined to CW.
And during the following days, our routine was the changing in the stations, and when there was not propagation, the group it was united appreciating the nature and that nature!In the end of the last day we got a total of 2320 contacts! See the distribution of those contacts for bands:
