Amateur Radio Classes and Exams
Exams are available from Papakura Radio Club on an as required basis.... nearly. The theory and regulations sections of the course are available from the club and CW training has also been held in the past and can continue for those interested.

ClassesGeoff Reed, ZL1AKY of the Papakura Radio Club inc. has in the past run radio theory and regulations classes at the clubrooms. With the change in exam format, a CD containing all relevant information on the theory, regulations, the study guide and a host of additional information is included in the introduction pack (soon).New Zealand Amateur Radio operators licensing requirements changed at midnight June 16th, 2004. From this date the CW section of the licensing requirement was removed. There is now no need to show proficiency in CW transmission and reception to gain access to the HF bands. See the GURL Docs back 1 page. CW exams are still available though for any who would like to add that endorsement to their license. This is still a requirement in some other countries for full license classes if you intent to operate there. CW training is held Mondays and Thursdays on 3.550MHz with a 'CQ Net' call. All members are welcome to participate. These sessions start at 7.30pm and run for 30 - 45 minutes or so. When required, slow CW, at up to 8WPM for those wishing to upgrade has been sent on the Bombay 146.900 Rpt. These transmissions are on FM and there is no read back. Text is from the latest Break-in. The sessions Monday - Saturday start at 7.00pm and run for 30 minutes. Sunday sessions will start at 7.30pm. These training sessions will be run on an 'as required' basis. They will be a notice given on the VHF News and Net on 146.625 Sunday evenings at 8.15pm Tests for the CW section of the Amateur Radio Operators exam (if requested) can be taken at the Papakura Radio Club inc. clubrooms. The one participant passed the exam. We will run a further test session as required. So there you are, start cramming for the tests and see how you to can enjoy the Amateur Radio hobby also.
