YL is so appropriate. I don't think I've met any other activity which ensures that participants remain so young at heart! Muriel Newman then presented
the Myrtle Earland Rosebowl - the NZ WAR0 Achievement Award, which is
awarded only to a member of NZ WAR0 who has made a truly significant contribution
to amateur radio - to Carol Gaudin ZL2VQ. On
behalf
of WARO, Carol, please accept
with my congratulations -for being a leader in organisation, administration
. . . . . . . for doing so much for amateur radio in every way
- the Myrtle Earland Rosebowl.
Thank you letter to the President and members of NZWARO from Carol ZL2VQ -Please extend a very humble and sincere `Thank you' to the Executive and the Members of N.Z. W.A.R.O. for what I personally believe to be the greatest Amateur Radio related honour of them all.... ie. being presented with the Myrtle Earland Memorial Rosebowl Award, for the 1999/2000 year. Those who were present at the WAR0 AGM in June will have witnessed my initial response to hearing the news . . . For the benefit of those not present, `Completely Gobsmacked' would be a good way of putting it, and what's more, little did I realise when I agreed to the suggestion `That the Trophy be awarded at theYL2000 Event'. At the time you did not mention `Opening Ceremony' or `Members of Parliament' and hence the four months between AGM and Presentation must surely be the longest four months of my life! Consequently the Rose Bowl and the Shield have both been given 'Pride of Place' in full view to every visitor to my home. Of the now seven names on the Trophy (and I have personally presented it to three of those .....) I can assure you that 'It is much easier to give than it is to receive', However I also recognise that a great deal of what I may have achieved as `a YL member of NZART Council' would not have been possible without the support I have received from the ZL-YL Amateur Radio fraternity. To be more specific, in my case, the YLs of Central District, and I sincerely thank you all. With that in
mind,
and also due to an increase in
my work commitments,
it is with mixed feelings that I formally and officially advise that I
shall not be seeking or accepting
any nominations for
re-election
for a further term
as a Member
of
NZART Council I shall endeavour
to
continue
to do what
I can, when
I can, for N.Z.
WARO. Alan Wallace ZLlAMW Alan Wallace ZLlAMW, President of NZART, took the opportunity to further welcome all to this wonderful event. He pointed out that amateur radio was a hobby of intercommunication, There are many facets of amateur radio with wide variations in how we actually communicate on air these include data modes, contesting, microwaves and many others. This diversity allows for a wide range of interests and variety within the hobby, but it does have its drawbacks, it can limit the opportunity to actually meet on-air in a common mode of frequency. YL2000 gave us the opportunity to meet in person with others from around our own country and around the world. Alan presented Muruiel Newman with a thank you gift including a Certificate of Thanks for her contribution to Amateur Radio and YL2000.
