This was to be our QTH for our 15 day operation, however more "suitable" accomodation was found in the guest house.

Our first view of Fakaofo Island with the radio station and the hospital on the left.

The inter island radio station is situated on Fakaofo Island.  You can see the hospital in amongst the coconut trees.  Pity we could not use these antennas for our DX-Pedition !!
All though there is 230volt power on the Island it is not very reliable.  The best method for cooking meals is the traditional way over hot embers in a coral stove.

What better to use as a mast than a very tall coconut tree.  The only problem is getting wires up into the trees, but not when you have a willing helper around to climb the trees for you.
The only means of transport from Western Samoa to the Tokelau Islands is by inter island freighter.  HOT TIP.  If you travel to the Tokelaus, get on the top deck under an umbrella and hope for cool ocean breezes !!
