Maitei,

This is the first attempt to have the Guarani keyboard on
Linux.

The special characters, i.e. nasal and accented vowels are defined in
the range > 127 so non all programs can handle these.
To be clearer: no vi, no shell, no joe, no jed etc. because they DO NOT
handle the 8^ bit.

I use the editor "jered" to write ( and read ;-) guarani for my execises.

To print the file use the "fontprint" utility, here included in the
file fprint-3.0.2a.rgz. This nice tool lets you produce also GIF files
to be used, for instance, in web pages.

Fprint uses the gd library, also included here.

To install:

copy the file guarani8x16 into /usr/lib/kbd/consolefonts
copy the file gu.map into /usr/lib/kbd/keytables

To use:

Get and install the editor jered-1.6.1.tar.gz

Give the command:

				  setguarani

to activate the guarani keyboard

Give the command:

				jered maitei.gua

ha vy'a !

Nasal vowels are entered with AltGr or AltGr-Shift. It works also for Y and N
and G.
Accented vowels are entered with Alt or Alt-Shift.

What next: --- HELP NEEDED ---

* X windows: The editor Yudit, that uses UNICODE, suports guarani texts...
but still we do not have guarani special letters defined
	     in UNICODE.
	     See www.yudit.org !

Problems:
Switching to X and back the font guarani is lost...it takes to run
setguarani again.
