At this point, I've run plywood sheathing around three sides of the house: the front, the west end, and the beach side. Only the west side remains. Here is a view of the beach side. On this side, I used heavy 3/4" plywood; the other 3 sides are getting the standard 1/2" plywood. My reasoning on the beach side was that with as many openings as I have for windows and those three big sliding glass doors, I needed as much diagonal bracing as I could get. The first window in this view is from the operating position in the ham shack. The sliding glass door next to it also opens into the "study". The second glass door opens into the living room, and the window after it is the dining area. The glass door at the far end opens into the master bedroom.
I'm going to install the sliding glass doors in the next few days. That will allow me to finish laminating the porch beam over the landing opening. Then I can begin running rafters! The first rafters should go up about January 2.
