W/VE Islands Contest -------------------- SONSOR: Sponsored by the US Islands Awards Program (USI). OBJECT: Work as many American and Canadian islands on HF as possible. All fresh water or saltwater islands count for awards provided they qualify for USI or CISA (Canadian Islands Awards). Please ensure the islands qualify. New islands can be called "new" until a number is assigned (ie - WA-new or BC-new, etc). DATE: First weekend in August. TIME: Saturday 16.00 UTC - Sunday 23.59 UTC. CATEGORIES: A. Island station (1.W 2.VE) B. Non-island station (1.W 2.VE 3.DX) C. Island Rover (1.W 2.VE) D. SWL (1.W 2.VE 3.DX) (A) Island stations work as many other W or VE island stations and non-island stations as possible. (B) Non-island stations work W or VE islands only. (C) Rover stations same as (A), but must spend a minimum of 2 hours on each island and submit separate entries. (D) SWL stations log A or C. EXCHANGE: 1. Island stations (A) and rovers (C) send signal report, USI or CISA# and island name. * Work other stations only once per island * 2. Non-island stations (B) send signal report and state or province/territory or country. SCORING: 1. Island stations and rovers receive 1 point for each non-island station worked and 5 points for each island station (USI/CISA) worked. 2. Non-island stations and SWL's receive 5 points for each island station (USI/CISA) worked or heard. Logs may be submitted in longhand or any standard logging program software is acceptable. Please send hard copy of logs. MULTIPLIERS: Each different state or province/territory worked counts once as a multiplier for category A through D. SUGGESTED FREQUENCIES: "General" phone or CW portions of the HF bands. AWARDS: All entries will be tabulated. Send your entry to the contest manager. Award certificates and plaques are "optional". Certificate fee is $5.00 US or $6.oo foreign. Handsome metal on wood base plaques (9" x 12") are available for $45 US or $52 foreign. Include an SASE with your entry so the contest manager can verify receipt of your entry (very important).
