2000 Hunting LIONS on the Air Contest

1. AnnouncingThe 29th Annual Hunting Lions on the Air Contest will take place the 2nd weekend in January. The contest is sponsored by The International Association of Lions Clubs, and coordinated by the Lions Club Flen (Sweden).
2. ObjectiveTo create and foster a spirit of international understanding and cooperation among amateurs and Lions through worldwide communications. The contest is to commemorate the birthday of the founder of Lionsism, Melvin Jones, born at Ft. Thomas, Arizona, USA on January 13, 1879.
3. Contest PeriodOperation is limited to 24 hours out of the 36 hour contest period. The 12 hours off may be taken at any time, but at not less than 1 hour periods.
4. ClassesThe contest is open to all licensed radio amateurs, non Lion (Class 1) and Lions (Class 2), except members of the Contest Committee. Stations in Class 2 may sign "Lion" or "/L". Such a station represents a member of a Lions, Lioness or Leo Club. Class 2 also includes non Lions who have agreed to compete for a local Lions Club. Members of the Melvin Jones Memorial Radio Club, USA, must sign "Melvin" or "/LM". W7YU, the Melvin Jones Memorial special station, must sign "Memorial" or "/MJM".
5. CategoriesSingle Operator, all band privileges.

Multi Operator, all band, Single Transmitter.

SWL.

6. Bands80, 40, 20, 15 and 10 meters.

Members of the Melvin Jones Memorial Radio Club will listen as much as possible, around 3750 or 3870, 7070 or 7270, 14270 or 14320, 21270 or 21320 and 28550 KHz on SSB.

7. ModesCW and SSB.
8. Valid ContactsThe same station may be contacted both on SSB and CW on each band. It is thus possible to make 10 valid contacts with the same station if worked both in SSB and CW on all bands.

At least 10% of the total number of contacts must be made with participating members of Lions, Lioness or Leo Clubs. If the total is less than 10%, contacts/points will be reduced until ratio is obtained.

9. CallThe call should be "CQ Hunting Lions in the Air" or "CQ Lions".
10. ExchangeTransmit RS(T) plus a serial number. Member of Lions, Lioness and Leo Clubs as well as stations competing on behalf of a Lions Club must transmit the name, Lions district number and QTH of the Lions Club.
11. QSO PointsOne (1) point - Every QSO with a non Lion station, Class 1, or

Three (3) points - Every QSO with a Lions station, Class 2, or

Five (5) points - Every QSO with a member of Melvin Jones Radio Club, or

Ten (10) points - Every QSO with Melvin Jones Memorial special station W7YU.

(QSOs between members of the Melvin Jones Memorial Radio Club, among themselves, will only count three (3) points, but ten (10) points allowed for QSO with "Memorial" special station W7YU/MJM).

12. MultiplierTwo (2) multipliers for every different prefix of stations in Class 2 worked (Member of a Lions, Lioness or Leo). "Prefix" is counted only once regardless of the times the same prefix is worked. The letter/numeral combinations which form the first part of the amateur call will be considered the prefix.
13. Final ScoreSum of QSO points for all bands multiplied by multipliers.
14. LogsAll sent and received exchanges are to be logged, including time in UTC and call sign. If the contact was made with a Lion (Class 2), the name, Lions district number and QTH of the club contacted should be mentioned correctly. For your convenience this may be in a separate list. If you are a Class 2 station, you must also include the name, Lions district number and postal address to your local Lions club.

Contest logs may be submitted on disk. File must be in ASCII format with one QSO on every new line. Only MS-DOS compatible disks will be accepted (either 5 1/4 or 3 1/2 inch). A written summary sheet must accompany the disk showing all required scoring information as well as your name and a phone or a FAX number where you can be reached.

15. DisqualificationLogs that do not comply with these requirements will not be considered and will be automatically disqualified. Operating in an unsportsmanlike manner is subject to disqualification. Actions and decisions of the Contest Committee are official and final.
16. DeadlineAll logs must be mailed not later than 30 days after the contest to:

the Contest Committee will communicate the results to the coordinating Lions club. The final report is submitted to the International Headquarters before May 30th same year.

17. Awardsthe first three places in category A and B will receive trophies; places four through ten will receive plaques from Lions Clubs International. Each participant submitting a log with a minimum of 15 QSOs will receive a special certificate from Lions Club Flen.

Radio listeners (SWLs), category C, are also entitled ti receive a certificate if they confirm through a log a minimum of 15 bilateral contacts. The log must include exchanges for the station heard.

At its discretion, the coordinating Lions club may elect to recignize in a special way any Lion, Lioness or Leo who demonstrates outstanding individual participation.

18. PublicityLions Clubs International will promote and publicize the contest to all districts through announcements in the Leadership Update and THE LION magazine. Contact International Headquarters for list of participating amateur radio operators from the previous years' contests.
