My QTH is Macin in the county of Tulcea in ROMANIA. Macin is a small city on the right side of the Danube river close to the city of Braila. It has the quiet country side atmosphere. Being close to the Danube river and the Macin mountains gives it a nice connection to the water and the rocks.
My attraction to HAM radio has started in the '60s when I realized that you can hear on the airwaves so many signals from so many remote places. I've got my receiver only license in the '70s and also got my transmission license a few years after that.
My first rig was an old tube receiver and transmitter that I have bought from YO4ZF, the first HAM radio in Macin. Some years later I can upgrade on the receiver with some de-comissioned military receiver. In the '80s my son has built a home made A-412 romanian made transceiver and a 50W power amplifier with 2xGU-50 tubes. The HF antenna was a VS1AA.
Currently, I own a Kenwood TS-50 HF transceiver with its associated AT-50 antenna tuner. It is a nice small transceiver that nicely outputs 100W of power. The VS1AA antenna has been modified into a dipole that can be easily tuned in all HF bands using the antenna tuner.
