AWARDS from ROMANIA
The following
awards are issued by the Romanian Amateur Radio Federation and can be
obtained
for CW, AM, SSB RTTY or mixed modes;
Awards are also issued for single bands (80-10 meters) and
for any combination of bands.
Contacts are valid after August 23, 1949.
The applications which must include a certified list of QSLs
(no cards) and 7 IRCs should be sent to:

Romania Award
This award is issued for working at least 30 different YO stations,
each in a different YO county,
Bucharest (capital city) included. All eight YO districts (YO2-YO9) must also
be represented.
Bucharest Award
This award is issued for working 10 different YO3 stations. The
Jubiliar Bucharest award is issued for working five different YO3 stations annually,
between December 1 and December 31. During this time are various activities celebrating
the national day of Romania. All YO stations located in the city of Bucharest
use the YO3 prefix. Application must be mailed by March 31 of the next year.
YO-AD (YO - All Districts)
This award is issued in three classes for working all YO districts:
- Class I - worked all eight
districts, three QSOs/district
- Class II - worked six YO districts, two
QSOs/district
- Class III - worked three YO districts, one QSO/district
YO-AM (YO - Alma Mater)
This award is issued for working YO stations located in the university
centers of Romania. The following cities are university centers: Bucharest, Cluj,
Timisoara, Brasov, Iasi, Constanta, Oradea, Baia Mare, Ploiesti, Sibiu, Bacau,
Pitesti, Galati, Suceava, Petrosani, Hunedoara, Targu Mures, Craiova, Resita.
North American applicants must make 10 points; contacts on:
- 80 meters = 8 points
- 40 meters = 3 points
- 20 meters = 1 point
- 15 meters = 2 points
- 10 meters = 4 points
A station can be worked on more than one band.
YO-BZ (YO - Balkans
Zone of Peace)
This award is issued for working stations in LZ, SV, SV9, SV/A,
TA, YO, YU and ZA in three classes:
- Class I - worked at least four countries, including
10 call districts and three YO call districts
- Class II - worked at least three countries, including
eight call districts and three YO call districts
- Class III - worked at least two countries, including six
call districts and three YO call districts
YO-DC (YO - Double Call)
This award is issued for working 26 "double letter"
callsign suffixes using all letters from AA to ZZ respectively. This includes
three letter suffixes, such as AAT, BBZ, BCC. Applicants outside of Europe must
work at least two YO stations with double calls.
YO-CM (YO - Chess Mate)
This award is issued for working all 64 stations as follows: On
the first horizontal row of a chessboard, fill in the callsign of eight different
YO stations you have worked. On each cell corresponding vertical row, fill in
the callsigns of seven other stations (YO okay) whose suffixes will include at
least one similar letter, and always the same, from the suffix of the first listed
YO callsign. For example, the first listed YO station is YO3JP; on the following
seven vertical squares, you might have YO3AAJ, JA1BJA, DL1CJ, YO3JW, I1SJ, SP5JJ,
W8ACJ (the letter J being the "key" of this series). If the first YO
callsigns listed on the first horizontal row belong to YO DX Club members, you
will be eligible for the special YO-CM Master award. In this case, you may use
the same YO DX Club member callsign several times if you have worked it on several
bands.
YO-DR (YO - Danube River)
This award is issued for working different stations located in
countries along the Danube River (DL, HA, LZ, OE, OM, YO, 9A, YU, UR) on two bands.
Two QSOs are required with each country except YO (three QSOs required). At least
three QSOs must be made with stations located in cities on the Danube River.
YO-DX-C (YO-DX Club
Members)
This award is issued for working two YO DX Club members
or honorary members. A membership list is available on request for 1 IRC.
Working YO-DXC members during the annual YO DX Contest on the first week-end
in August (Sunday) can qualify you as an honorary member.
YO-LC (YO - Large Cities)
This award is issued for working YO stations located in the Romanian
large cities in three classes:
- Class I - worked 20 cities;
- Class II - worked 10 cities;
- Class III - worked 5 cities;
YO large cities are:
- YO2 - Arad, Deva, Hunedoara, Lugoj, Petrosani, Resita, Timisoara
- YO3 - Bucharest
- YO4 - Braila, Constanta, Focsani, Galati, Tecuci, Tulcea
- YO5 - Alba Iulia, Baia Mare, Bistrita, Cluj, Dej, Oradea,
Satu Mare, Sighetul Marmatiei, Turda, Zalau
- YO6 - Brasov, Medias, Miercurea Ciuc, Odorheiu Secuiesc,
Sfantu Gheorghe, Sibiu, Sighisoara, Targu Mures
- YO7 - Craiova, Pitesti, Ramnicu Valcea, Slatina, Targu Jiu,
Drobeta Turnu Severin
- YO8 - Bacau, Barlad, Botosani, Iasi, Onesti, Piatra Neamt,
Roman, Suceava
- YO9 - Alexandria, Buzau, Calarasi, Giurgiu, Ploiesti, Slobozia,
Targoviste, Turnu Magurele
