Operation of an amateur radio station requires an amateur operator license issued by Directorate General of Post and Telecommunications.
There are four classes of license: No Code, Novice, General and Advanced, each authorizing privileges corresponding to the qualifications
required.
Before receiving a license, you must pass an examination organized by the state institution above.
Most new amateur operators start with the Novice Class and then proceed class by class as their skills and abilities increase in operating an amateur station.
Only a few newcomers begin at No Code class.
General Qualifications by Class.
No Code Class :
- Indonesian citizen and minimum 14 years old.
- Passed the following examination elements :
- Basic knowledge on radio regulations and operating procedures.
- Basic radio techniques.
- National ideology and constitutions.
Novice Class :
- Indonesian citizen and minimum 14 years old.
- Passed the following examination elements :
- Basic knowledge on radio regulations and operating procedures.
- Basic radio techniques.
- National ideology and constitutions.
- Morse code sending and receiving test at 5 wpm (words per minute).
General Class :
- Have held Novice class license for minimum 6 (six) months.
- Have at least 40 QSL cards including 25 cards from 5 call-areas and 15 cards from other countries.
- Have at least 4 certificates issued by ORARI.
- Passed the following examination elements :
- Intermediate knowledge on radio regulations and operating procedures.
- Intermediate radio techniques.
- English language for communications.
- National ideology and constitutions.
- Morse code sending and receiving test at 8 wpm (words per minute).
Advanced Class :
- Have held General class license for minimum 1 (one) year.
- Have at least 50 QSL cards from 15 countries and 3 continents.
- Have at least 8 certificates issued by ORARI.
- Passed the following examination elements :
- Advanced knowledge on radio regulations and operating procedures.
- Advanced radio techniques.
- English language for communications.
- National ideology and constitutions.
- Morse code sending and receiving test at 12 wpm (words per minute).
