  • Amateurs are considerate.
They never knowingly use the air in such a way as to lessen the pleasure of others.

  • Amateurs are Loyal.
They offer their loyalty, encouragement and support to other radio amateurs and to their country and organization, through which Amateur Radio is represented.

  • Amateurs are Progressive.
They keep their stations abreast of science, well-built and efficient.  Their operating practices are above reproach.

  • Amateurs are Friendly.
Slow and patient sending when requested, friendly advice and counsel to the beginner, kindly assistance, cooperation and consideration for the interests of others.  These are the marks of the amateur spirit.

  • Amateurs are Balanced.
Radio is their hobby. They never allow it to interfere with any of the duties they owe to their homes, their jobs, their schools or their community.

  • Amateurs are Patriotic.
Their knowledge and their stations are always ready for the service of their country and their community.

The original Amateur's Code was written by Paul M. Segal, W9EEA in 1928.
